Robin and Jeff, Maywood Crest Dr, Palm Beach Gardens, FL

Thank you for visiting our website and seeing the work that we completed for your neighbors Robin and Jeff on Maywood Crest Dr. Thank you Robin and Jeff for allowing us to share this story and of course for trusting The Perfect Paver Co to restore your paver driveway and travertine pool deck.

Robin and Jeff have always given extra effort towards maintaining the outside of their home.  This involved, over the years, hiring many different pressure washing companies to pressure wash their paver driveway and travertine paver pool deck. After each time this work was completed, they were just never 100% satisfied. In fact, they realized that after each cleaning, things seemed to get worse.

The mold issue on the pavers and travertine seemed to get worse. And from all of the frequent pressure washing of the travertine, Robin and Jeff started noticing that many of the travertine pavers had became uneven with one another.

Robin and Jeff learned about Perfect Paver Co and decided to do some research. They discovered that we have a completely different approach to maintaining, cleaning and restoring pavers and travertine. You see, we use very high temperature steam to clean pavers and travertine. Heat is one of the very few effective methods of killing mold. In fact, most of the other companies that Robin and Jeff had hired in the past were actually making the issue worse. You see, the use of cold water pressure washing and bleach only removes the black leaf of mold and does not kill the microscopic mold spores. So in essence, they were just trimming the hedges. And we all know, when you trim the hedges, they just grow back bigger than ever. Same thing with the mold. We call it mad mold.

Due to the incorrect cleaning techniques, these companies had washed out all the jointing sand from between the travertine pavers. The jointing sand in travertine is crucial to keep the stones even with one another. The sand in joints becomes lodged, making all the independent stones float as one. When you remove this sand, each stone is able to move around independent of the stones next to it. Empty joints allow pressure washing and heavy rains to go erode the leveling sand beneath the stones making them uneven.

After meeting with Robin and Jeff and creating a custom plan for restoring their pavers and travertine and providing a free estimate, they happily accepted our proposal.

We arrived on site day 1, and began re-leveling uneven travertine pavers. We were also able to begin the steam cleaning process on the paver driveway.

Day 2, we sealed the front driveway and finished the repairs on the travertine paver pool deck. We were also able to steam clean the travertine pavers.

Day 3, we applied our special travertine paver sealer. This sealing process that we’ve developed, leaves the travertine looking slightly enhanced, but still natural. It protects the travertine from within instead of laying on top of the travertine. We strongly recommend NOT using these topical sealers as they will make travertine pavers very slippery and eventually detach from the surface resulting in a white hazy appearance. Our sealer will not increase or decrease the slipperiness of travertine.

We then installed our preferred polymeric sand in to the joints of the travertine. Once installed, this sand sets up hard and glues itself in to place. This way it won’t wash away when it rains or when the surface is cleaned.

Read what Robin and Jeff had to say about us:

“What a difference.  The pavers look better than when they were first installed, and we particularly appreciated the attention to detail throughout the entire process.  Perfect Paver Co is the only company we found that took the time to level the travertine pavers before they steam-cleaned them. Prior pressure-washing services had left their mark and displaced so much sand that many pavers were no longer level.  No more pressure washing for our pavers. Steam-cleaning is the way to go. We especially like their special sand that sets up in the travertine joints keeping it locked in to place.”

– Robin and Jeff, The Preserve at Bay Hill Estates”

Why seal travertine? We recommend sealing travertine for several reasons. Travertine is very sensitive to the salt in the air and salt in salt water pools. This salt, over time, will actually eat away at the travertine. Travertine is very  porous. These pores store moisture creating a damp environment. This damp environment becomes the perfect breading ground for mold. Our sealer minimizes the penetration of water in to the travertine, which in turn minimizes mold growth. With our custom after care plan that we give you, mold will stay away.

Why seal pavers? Man made pavers achieve their color in the manufacturing process by dyes being added to the concrete. As soon as these pavers are installed, the sun and the acid in the rain attacks the pigments in these dyes causing the colors to fade away permanently.  In addition, traffic and and rain will breakdown the finer material on the surface of the paver leaving only the larger aggregate exposed over time. Our sealers are designed to protect the colors in pavers similar to sunscreen on the skin. They also help minimize the damage caused by traffic and rain. In addition to sealing, our installation of polymeric sand (sand that gets hard and locked in to place) helps keep pavers locked in to place and helps minimize weed and mold growth.
